lamy 2000 fountain pen | broad quill
design gerd alfred müller 1966
makrolon and line matted stainless steel
13,8 cm, 20 g
when it was launched in 1966, the lamy 2000 series – consisting of a fountain pen, pencil and ballpoint pen – was different due to its simple sleek aesthetics: a fountain pen made of matt plastic combined with a spring-loaded stainless steel clip instead of golden trimmings. this was an unusual combination of materials at the time, especially for objects that were mainly used as status symbols. simple design was given a symbolic-social function: as per market research, owners of this pen were to have a sense of understatement and appreciate the clear shape as a sign of their modern and progressive view of life. attributions change, but the aesthetics remain: the fountain pen in particular seems to have come from a single mould, because the nib consistently continues the spindle shape to its end. a form that is geared towards writing.
