one of the most beautiful weaves from the early days of the Bauhaus is the tapestry by max peiffer watenphul. the composition of contrasts of form and colour shows the influence of johannes itten's teachings.
itten donated the tapestry to the bauhaus archive when it was founded in darmstadt in 1961. the colours for the printing of the poster were taken from the back of the tapestry, which is still only slightly faded. the poster shows an excerpt.
